Hello you lovely cyber readers out there and welcome to my second ever ‘Secret Life’ blog…. As said in the previous one, this blogs main purpose is to update you every time I learn something new about the medium of radio; stations, presenters, closures or anything else that either people stumbling upon the page (or even stations looking for content) could find useful or mildly interesting…and maybe, just maybe, you guys can learn as much as I do…. Sooo… Today just a quick one: Radiotoday.co.uk...

Emma: Radio makes me happy as it makes me feel like I’m not alone in the mornings. If the breakfast team that I’m listening too are in a good mood, that rubs off on me and sets me up for the day ahead  I always end up chuckling to myself so it feels like I’m getting ready with friends. Radio makes me feel like I am a part of something as it reaches out to individuals rather than mass audiences. I would always prefer to listen to a good bit of radio than watch the TV. Radio obviously doesn’t...

Today Daisy and I interviewed Roger from Q all about the radio industry.. well, I saw 'we', but all I did was push the buttons, get it recording and then sit back and hope that Roger couldn't hear me giggling down the phone. Have a listen.

So today I'm in the studio talking all about fussy eaters. I know that when I was small I was an incredibly fussy eater. In fact, my Dad used to change the names of vegetables in order to trick me into eating them - until I was about 6 I used to think that mushrooms were actually called 'Chicken Hammers'. I know. Shocking parenting. Research has shown that 20% of under fives are fussy eaters, not too shocking I hear you cry, but almost a third of adults class themselves as fussy eaters! This...

So, I had a lovely chat with Tracy from Minster Fm. Have look below at what she had to say about working on radio! What is your job title and main responsibilities? Tracy Gee is the Senior News Editor for Yorkshire at Minster FM keeping you updated with breaking news 7 days a week. Where did you begin your broadcast career? I started my broadcasting career at Riding FM which covers Wakefield and the Five Towns. I started off as a Broadcast Journalist. What made you want to work in radio? My...

You might have seen this story last week... it's official; radio makes us happier! New research for the Radio Advertising Bureau found that radio listeners have higher levels of happiness and energy than consumers of other forms of media. So, with this in mind, I asked everyone in the IMN office to tell me on e-mail or the back of a postcard (I got an actual postcard from one member of the team who seemingly has too much time on his hands) why they love the wireless - and got some interesting...

Today I had Kevan from Bolton FM on the line, and asked him a few questions about how he got into the industry, a bit about his station and who has been his favourite interview. Go on, have a listen. You know you want to.

Massive congratulations to everyone who won awards at the Arqivas last night! A special mention must go out to the one and only Ronnie Wood. By no means is he a newcomer to the world of rock and roll but he picked up the Newcomer award for his show on Absolute Radio - which also picked up the award for Specialist Programme of the year. We had an amazing evening - sharing a table with some lovely folks from Quidem (96.2 Touch FM) who picked up an award for Station Of The Year < 300,000....

When I began my journey into the depths of Independent Media News a month ago I expected a lot of things; hard work and daily challenges mostly, but what I didn’t expect however was the wealth of knowledge that was going to be released to me. Even though I have spent the majority of my life working and volunteering at radio stations I never really truly understood how ‘the industry’ worked. But suddenly its becoming clear, less foggy, and a’hell’of’a’lot less frustrating, and its fascinating...

Like any savvy journalist I had done my background research before meeting Henry Bonsu. Having found that he was once axed for being "too intellectual" I had my concerns. However, discovering over lunch that he has worked on BBC radio and TV programmes including Today, World at One, Public Eye and Black Britain, this reasoning made a lot of sense! For two years Henry anchored the Drivetime news programme on BBC London 94.9, interviewing leading politicians, business people and celebrities. He...
