The Secret Life Of An IMN Employee (Part two)

Posted by Georgina on 14 July 2011

Hello you lovely cyber readers out there and welcome to my second ever ‘Secret Life’ blog….

As said in the previous one, this blogs main purpose is to update you every time I learn something new about the medium of radio; stations, presenters, closures or anything else that either people stumbling upon the page (or even stations looking for content) could find useful or mildly interesting…and maybe, just maybe, you guys can learn as much as I do…. Sooo…

Today just a quick one:

Radiotoday.co.uk is running a competition to win tickets to the 2011 Radio Festival in Manchester. All you have to do is submit your favorite British greatest radio moments! From funnies and bloopers to must-hear compelling content, they want your suggestions on broadcasting classics from the past 50 years.

Sounds simple you say? Well, with so many to choose from I struggled for a very long time to think about which one to enter…

Could it be a BBC Wogan classic interview perhaps? Or a bit of a John Peel loving? Maybe the controversial Russell Brand and Jonathon Ross ‘Sachsgate’?. (too soon I hear you cry!)

Never fear, in the end I put my foot down and decided on a classic British moment, originally said in the 40’s then re-recorded by the BBC in the 50’s. It is of course Churchill’s famous ‘’Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few’’ speech. This moment to me has really stood the test of time and successfully voiced the feelings of a warring nation in hardly any words… no easy task let me tell you on behalf of the IMN Ladies who write copy!

Unfortunately me being me, I didn’t work out the maths… 50 years of radio moments means the beginning date must be from the 60’s onwards! So I’m yet to grasp at a truly epic moment...Any Idea’s?
