The Secret Life Of An IMN Employee.

Posted by Georgina on 5 July 2011

When I began my journey into the depths of Independent Media News a month ago I expected a lot of things; hard work and daily challenges mostly, but what I didn’t expect however was the wealth of knowledge that was going to be released to me. Even though I have spent the majority of my life working and volunteering at radio stations I never really truly understood how ‘the industry’ worked. But suddenly its becoming clear, less foggy, and a’hell’of’a’lot less frustrating, and its fascinating stuff! (Yes I’m a geek!)

My plan is to update this blog every time I learn something new about the medium of radio, stations, presenters, closures or anything else that either people stumbling upon the page (or even stations looking for content) could find useful or mildly interesting…and maybe, just maybe, you guys can learn as much as I do…. Sooo…

Today I learnt that Danny Wallace is to Join the XFM London breakfast show… Danny has previously done work for stations Radio 2, 6 Music and Absolute Radio. He’s been on TV a lot lately and is an author and journalist. His book ‘Yes Man’ was adapted for the big-screen starring Jim Carrey, whilst the screen-play adaption for ‘Friends Like These’ is currently underway.

He’ll take on the 6.30-10am slot on Xfm London from 1st August. He takes over from previous breakfast presenter Dave Berry, who moved to Global Radio’s sister station Capital FM earlier this year.

Danny says: “I’ve been a fan of Xfm for as long as it’s been going and to get the Breakfast Show gig is a dream come true. Its listeners are smart and funny, its music cutting edge, and its logo light green – the three most important elements of successful breakfast broadcasting. I can’t overstate how keen I am and how hard I will work to make the show the best it can be. I can’t wait.”

Xfm’s Programme Director Andy Ashton told us: “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Danny Wallace to the Xfm Breakfast Show. Danny’s intelligence, humour and passion for music make him the perfect match for our audience. His achievements so far are incredible and we can’t wait to build on that with the launch of the brand-new show.”

XFM's downloaded podcasts for the Breakfast show have been a lot lower this year than the likes of Moyle’s on BBC Radio 1 and Evans on Radio 2... me thinks XFM's new host will be there to rock the BBC boat and showcase XFM and Danny’s celeb allies.
