Yorkshire Dragons Den Winner Comments on the Future for Solar Energy as Rates are Slashed this week

Earlier this week, the Department of Energy and Climate Change confirmed it was slashing solar incentives – it also announced it was halving the rate homeowners with their own solar power generators could sell back their surplus to the National Grid for.
So with Yorkshire and the Humber having the third largest (13%) concentration of these Feed-In-Tariff Installations in the UK, where rates are going down from 43p per kilowatt peak (kWp) to just 21p, what impact will it have on renewable energy in our area?
It’s been claimed jobs in the industry will be lost and people will be put off installing their own units if they can’t make as much money from selling their surplus energy on.
Does that matter, and does it make the investment of installation pointless?
Can you explain what the DECC announcement meant for homeowners who have solar power units?
Is this part of the renewable energy industry now dying?
Why do more people in our area have these installations than most other areas of the county?
How much does it cost to install solar equipment?
Can you give us an example of how I save money by installing solar equipment?
Where can we find out more information?
