A brand new scientific study has revealed the perfect formula for making tea, including 10ml of milk, 6 minutes cooling time, 2 minutes brewing time, 200ml of boiling water, and a perfect consumption temperature of 60°C. 165 million cups of tea are drunk in the UK every day, with 6.6 million Brits preferring the traditional approach and using a tea pot rather than a tea bag.

Nearly half of us admit to having a fear of spoilt milk, with over two thirds admitting to sniffing their milk before brewing up. 15% of Brits claim they would throw a tantrum, stamp their feet and cry if faced with no milk for our tea.

We learn tea making at the average age of seven and a half, 98% of us take milk with our tea and 90% of Brits want to see tea making take its place on the National Curriculum alongside English and Maths.

The milky cup of tea has its place up there with British icons such as the Queen, Shakespeare and Winston Churchill and is what we turn to in times of crisis, use to greet guests and is the tipple of choice even on hot summer days. Tea may be a British institution, but this year’s ‘Tea Report’ has revealed that the way we make it and take it can bind and divide us; brewed or stewed; bitter or sweet; splash or dash of milk?
