  News Hooks:

A brand new eye correction treatment has been launched in the UK this month to help with the correction of both long and short sighted vision. 100,000 people in Britain are having laser eye surgery every year, yet those in their 40s and above previously had one option when undergoing laser eye surgery and that was to have their distance vision corrected and compromise with reading glasses for near vision. However this new treatment does not compromise vision at all.

Wearing glasses can often be an inconvenience, with an estimated 5.5 million adults avoiding sport completely because wearing glasses or contacts is too inconvenient and their eyesight isn't good enough. There are almost 10,000,000 shortsighted people in the UK who suffer from short sight, and around 6% of them have already opted to have laser eye surgery to correct their refractive error.

Moreover, it is estimated that 18 million people in the UK need reading glasses to help them read. Long sightedness becomes more prevalent in the over 40s, with 50% of Brits aged 42 needing reading glasses. Evidence suggests that everyone will need ‘readers’ at some point in their life, but with advancements in technology allowing Brits to correct their vision without compromise; it seems likely that the prevalence of laser eye surgery is only likely to increase.
