As Ramadan Approaches, Will Third Generation Muslims Still Be Eating Halal Meat?

With 3 days to go until Ramadan starts latest research has pointed towards the fact that many third generation Muslims are eating far less Halal meat than their parents and grandparents.

With Ramadan just a few days away, a study’s estimating over 1.4 million (90%) Muslims in Britain are eating meat that’s only Halal; and the remaining 10% are eating mostly meat that’s been prepared under the Islamic guidelines.

94% of first generation Muslims eat only Halal meat – compared to 90% of second generation and 81% of third.

With supermarkets and shops finding new ways to sell Halal products, including stocking entire ranges on their specialist shelves, we’ve invited Halal food specialist, James Stuart, and Mohammed Rajak, a representative of the Muslim community – to give us an idea of what the future holds for the traditionally prepared food.

Ramadan is a testing time for almost 3 million Muslims living in the UK today2. And with just a few days to go until the holy month commences, many are reflecting on the changing attitudes the country has seen towards Halal produce over recent years.

But is the demand for Halal food as strong as it once was and are we becoming a more accepting nation where the demands of a diverse range of religions are catered for?
