. Introduction:

Almost every day of the year in the UK a woman between 20 and 29 is diagnosed with malignant melanoma, the potentially fatal form of skin cancer. In this age range there are twice as many cases of melanoma as there are of breast cancer.

Despite the fact that sunbeds are blamed for the acceleration of skin cancer, 9% of 11 to 17-year-old girls have used a sunbed. This is despite the fact that Ministers have suggested a ban on sunbed use for the under 18s.

Fake Bake, "The Rolls Royce in self tanning", has launched a Save Your Skin campaign to increase awareness of the dangers of "binge tanning", particularly among the younger generations who see a glamorous attraction to a year-round tan. With the campaign supported by many famous faces including Vernon Kay and Gaby Roslin, Fake Bake aims to educate the nation on the dangers of over exposure to the sun and ban unmanned coin operated sun bed shops.
