Today CitizenCard has launched a new card, to enable users to prove their age, as well as pay for purchases online and in store, and is aimed at children and teenagers.

The prepaid card for 12 year olds and up has been pioneered by CitizenCard – a not-for-profit company – with the card offering peace of mind as parents decide how much money is loaded onto it, and, because it reveals the age of the user every time it’s used, this means their kids can’t buy things like alcohol underage.

So the card makers believe the new card will help youngsters understand how to budget and give them greater freedom, whilst keeping them protected. But, as a study today reveals that 84% of children will go to their mum and dad first for financial advice and with the majority of parents clearly anxious about finances when it comes to children’s outlook: is this really the card that has all the answers?

. Introduction:

With parents’ worries for their children’s financial future at an all time high, a card - which combines payment with proof of age, is being launched today, and it’s aimed at 12 year olds and up. The makers say the card will minimise parents’ concerns for their child’s safety, getting into debt and even buying alcohol underage, whilst giving young people more financial freedom.

Is this the card with all the answers?
