New Research Reveals Local Small Businesses Are Among The Most Vulnerable

. Introduction:

Brand new research investigating the attitudes of small businesses’ regarding computer security has revealed fundamental flaws. Although 97% of small businesses have anti-virus, 53% don’t feel that they had a secure environment in the business and 35% admitted that they did not give new employees any instruction on company security policies.

British small businesses are among the most vulnerable with 53% admitting they have suffered a cyber attack or system crash in the past year, resulting in a loss of information. 25% of these reporting a loss of business as a consequence.

There were an unprecedented level of cyber-threats recorded in 2008 with 90% attempting to steal confidential information, mostly for resale. 23% of businesses claimed money was an obstacle in creating a more secure environment and 32% stated a lack of time and knowledge was compromising their security.
