This October Half Term, The National Trust is holding the first ever ‘Festival of Walking’, sponsored by PruHealth, which is taking place at 180 locations nationwide. With four in ten (41%) adults admitting they want to spend more time with their family, The National Trust has created over 1,000 activities for families to take part in and 800 different, downloadable routes to walk. Barefoot walks, silly walks, dog walks and night walks will all be on offer for anyone who wants to explore the great outdoors with their family this half term.

Autumn is a great time for families to get out into the great outdoors. According to research from the National Trust, two thirds (66%) of the British population want to go walking this autumn and a third (33%) say it’s the season’s beautiful colours that makes autumn walking so special.

Half term is a great opportunity to have fun with the family and explore the outdoors and it doesn’t have to cost a lot either.

Walking is also a great way to get fit. Government guidelines recommend that Brits walk 10,000 steps a day. Just thirty minutes of brisk walking each day can help reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, maintain a healthy weight, and improve self-esteem as well as reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety.
