With the common misconception being that Women are clueless when it comes to motoring, new research has shown that Men are just as much to blame when the time comes to get your car serviced. Whilst a third believe that getting your car serviced is not important, 61% of those who are concerned about their safety do not know what parts of the car are actually serviced.
Men are the worst culprits when it comes to car care, as four in ten revealed they would much rather pay someone to take care of their car than do it themselves, one in ten never bother to get their car serviced and a further 12% admitted to only getting their car serviced when they can afford to. Almost two in five (39%) feel intimidated due to their lack of car knowledge when taking their car for a service, and nearly three quarters (72%) feel they could be unknowingly ripped off at a garage. However, is this really a surprise as 48% of Brits admit to being lazy when it comes to caring for their car?
With oil levels, antifreeze levels, screenwash and brakes being vital elements to be on top of in the winter - 46% of people are not aware of what the warning lights on their dashboard mean. In fact, one in ten men have driven knowing that their brakes were in poor condition. When it comes to car safety, women come out on top with 16% of men admitting to driving with bald tires compared to 11% of women. Despite days getting darker earlier, almost one in five (18%) men have driven with a missing headlight or broken bulb compared to just over one in ten (13%) women. If faced with a broken down car, women would be most likely to ask their partner (44%) or their dad (23%) to take a look whereas men have admitted to taking the car straight to a garage (44%).
