  News Hooks:

Latest research reveals 80% of women aren’t doing enough physical activity to benefit their health and are less physically active than their male counterparts, where the government advises a minimum of 30 minutes moderate-intensity physical activity, five days a week.

69% of women want to do more physical activity but cannot, the most practical barriers being not having enough leisure time (37%), work commitments (34%) and caring for children and older people (25%). Psychological barriers prove to be a problem as 25% of women say they are not motivated and 21% say they are not the “sporty type” compared to 14% of men.

More than one in ten (11%) women admit that they have been so scared at the prospect of wearing a bikini that they have not gone on holiday at all and almost a third (30%) resort to wearing a T-shirt over their swimwear, while 12% avoid the beach or pool altogether.

. Introduction:

As we move further into Summer, women across the country are finding themselves inevitably reaching for the dreaded bikini. The majority of women want to do more physical activity yet practical and psychological barriers are standing in the way. It seems that women are struggling to fit the gym into their busy lives in order to get into shape for the summer, and are therefore trying to find alternative ways to exercise on the go.

So despite women feeling happier when they are in good shape, why is finding time to exercise often more difficult than the exercise itself?

Joining us in the studio to discuss this further is women’s health and fitness expert Stephen Price, and Katie Neiman from FitFlop Footwear.
