As Autumn arrives, dishes such as roast beef and good hearty stews are likely to see a revival. British people are now more conscious of food provenance and dietary health than ever before and on average we consume 50g of meat protein daily.
Good husbandry, animal welfare and environmental care are also important to British people and these are just some of the reasons that the Irish Food Board is highlighting the benefits of grass-fed beef and how this influences the flavour and quality.
Food experts generally admit that beef that has been free to roam is lower in saturated fat, higher in Vitamins A and E and with a natural balance of Omega 3 and 6. As our closest neighbour, Ireland has been providing British people with free-range beef and other food for 100’s of years. With the longest grass-growing season in Europe and more cows than people, Ireland is setting high standards.
How can we ensure the beef we consume is good quality?
