If you think being handy in the home is the preserve of a man, think again!

Whether it’s a lick of paint, constructing a flat pack or changing a light bulb - today, women are increasingly likely to pick up the power-tools and do DIY around the house in order to boost and lift their spirits!

However, the days of the ‘handy man’ aren’t over just yet as research reveals this year, both men and women are planning to dust off their drills and pull out their paintbrushes to get stuck into DIY round the home. And whilst men are more likely to engage in a home improvement project to increase its value, females are more interested in increasing their enjoyment of the home.

Even with DIY champions such as Kirsty Allsop, Sarah Beeny and Julia Kendell leading the way in ‘fix-it’ females, many women still admit certain DIY projects are too much to handle with less than 10% being able to master plumbing or try their hand at converting.

As a nation becoming increasingly more interested in DIY, this September is the fourth year of the popular National Home Improvement Show, an opportunity to get inspired to start renovation projects and to build confidence in tasks that women of the previous generation might once have left to their male counterparts!
