  News Hooks:

New research published by the British Heart Foundation reveals UK adults are failing to get enough daily exercise with two thirds (67%) admitting they don’t get their 30 minutes of physical activity a day and 15% do none at all. These figures are cause for concern as those who are physically active are half as likely to die from coronary heart disease.

Nearly half of adults (44%) are simply ‘too busy’ to exercise, over a quarter (27%) say they just can’t be bothered and kid themselves about how much exercise they do to make themselves feel better. With a recent study showing one-in-three children do under an hour of exercise a day because they also can’t be bothered, it’s not surprising as parents fail to lead by example.

In response, this National Heart Month sees the launch of a new online lifestyle check to help people make the right lifestyles choices and improve their heart health. Also this month, more than 20 buildings across the UK will be lit red.

. Introduction:

New research reveals disturbing UK attitudes towards exercise and how to lead a healthy lifestyle. The study revealed nearly three quarters consider themselves to be healthy however; two thirds don’t do 30 minutes of physical activity a day with some doing none at all. As children’s exercise levels also fail to meet standards, it’s not surprising as parents fail to lead by example. People who are physically active are half as likely to die from coronary heart disease and so this month the British Heart Foundation is encouraging people to keep a check on their health and lifestyle choices.

So what is going on during this February for National Heart Month?
