Taking part in a hobby may have previously seemed like little more than a way to fill time, but new research has revealed that it can in fact provide huge benefits to your health, improving both mental and physical fitness. Doctors are even supporting the theory, with one in twenty people having already been told to take up a hobby by their GP.

And it seems hobbies are making a comeback amongst all ages with 93% of people already participating, or considering doing so. Traditional pastimes like baking and knitting have seen a big resurgence, particularly amongst those aged between 18 – 24 with 6 in 10 having taken up a hobby to take their mind off the stresses of daily life.

Nearly half of people (44%) say they’d take up a hobby to improve their physical wellbeing, and a similar number (43%) to keep their mind active. So with the winter nights drawing in, what better time to pick up a pastime?
