Youth unemployment has reached an all time high, with latest figures revealing that over a million 16-24 year olds are out of work. More than one in five people aged between 16 and 24 are out of work, the highest figure since records began in 1992.

Record youth unemployment is set to worsen this winter, with two thirds of companies admitting that the job market is set to get worse before it gets better. On paper, teenagers are performing better than ever at school and college, with this year’s GCSE results the highest on record with seven out of 10 students achieving grade Cs and above. Despite this over achievement at school, in reality the job market for young people remains extremely tough and competitive.

Bourne Leisure, who runs Butlins and Haven, has 500 job vacancies for young people who want to break into the entertainment business. In one of the harshest youth unemployment climates of the past twenty years, hundreds of new jobs are being created specifically targeted to help the younger generation get onto the career ladder.
