The Global Financial Markets are currently facing a period of uncertainty this week due to circumstances on both sides of the pond. The USA faces the biggest spending cuts since the 1950s and a debt ceiling of $16.7tn, whilst Greece has accepted its second bail out in a year, worth £93.6 million.

Amongst the general population there is understandable anxiety and uncertainty within the financial world: the amount of money placed in investment funds by savers has fallen by up to 90% in recent months, with 58% of people admitting to having lost faith in the stock market. 44% plan to never invest in stocks again, revealing investor’s unease in the market.

Despite common misconceptions, the global events and uncertain financial markets could open up opportunities for savvy British investors. Recent analysis estimates have shown that the spread betting industry generates annual revenues of around £300m, with the volatile markets providing opportunities for the 85,000 people who spread bet, as well as opening up opportunities for 18,000 new traders every year.
