This World Wine Week (10th - 17th May 2010), we consider whether, in the lead up to the World Cup, the image of this bastion of masculinity will need to be re-assessed as more women gear up to watch the big games of 2010. But, despite men and women laying old demons to rest as they agree to watch the footie, women won’t be watching slouched on the sofa surrounded by beer cans and pizza boxes; they want to add their own touches of glamour and fun to the proceedings. Research has shown that women continue to have a different concept of how to toast the nation’s success; rejecting ‘manly’ beers in favour of chic, sparkling wine, more suited to a WAGs glamorous lifestyle.
So will football really become more sophisticated during this World Cup?
