  News Hooks:

New research reveals a third (33%) of 5-16 year olds say that the best thing about going on holiday is spending time with their Mum and Dad, compared to just 12% who think the best thing is not having to go to school. 48% of children prefer to have a holiday that involves the whole family with more than one in 10 saying that family holidays are the only quality time that they get to spend with their Mum or Dad.

The downsides to a holiday include missing friends (47%) and pets (33%) as well as weird and different food (27%). Despite this, only 4% of children would choose to go away with a celebrity over their family and over a third of parents are consultative, involving their children when it comes to the actual destination.

In the study, children expressed their views on the environment and 67% think that it is more difficult to recycle on holiday and 64% say hotels and apartments should do more to help save energy, like having lights that turn off automatically and not to provide clean towels every day of the holiday.

. Introduction:

New research investigates what makes a great summer holiday for children aged 5-16 and perhaps surprisingly, getting to spend quality time with Mum and Dad beats computer games, dancing, sunbathing and even holidaying with celebrities. They would also choose to go away with their family rather than a celebrity! Contrary to popular belief, the survey discovered that the youth of today are not merely computer crazed couch potatoes but do still prefer to travel on holiday (60%) enjoying a beach holiday and visiting theme parks as well as having a concern for the environment.
