What Would Our Own Radio Show Be About?

So this week I asked the IMN Team:
If you had your own radio show, what would it be about?
Here's what we had to say - enjoy!

If I had my own radio programme it would be a cross between a music show and an interview-style programme that I’m calling The Ultimate Mixtape. I’ve taken my inspiration from Desert Island Disks! Whoever my guest was (let’s say Beyonce or Brad Pitt – I don’t aim low!) they would have to go through every decade from the 50’s to today and pick 2 songs that sum up that decade for them. We would then talk about that decade (and if they were alive during that time – take the opportunity for the celeb to tell me interesting stories from when they were growing up) and then play the song with an explanation of why that particular song means so much to them. By the end of the show we would have 14 songs that sum up the celebs life and we could make the whole thing available as a download!

Health and fitness!!! (no surprise there then!) I'd have weekly guests on - from the likes of Mr Motivator to Jessica Ennis and various resident medical/physiotherapy professionals to answer phone in questions from callers with training questions, health issues or just want to talk fitness!
I'd play inspirational work out music and do features on sportspeople or areas of health that are under-represented in mainstream media. I would also run a weekly feature called 'Be inspired' which would tell the story of an individual who has turned there life around to sport or a sportstar who has made an incredible recovery from an accident - it may also tell the life story of legendary sportstars, i.e. The late world class freestyle skiier -Sarah Burke.

If I had my own radio show, it would be a Grandma’s dream. Absolutely full of chilled out, folk and country music. Lots of Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift, The Civil Wars, Bon Iver, Slow Club, Frank Turner, Johnny Flynn, Bob Dylan and Billy Bragg. I’d probably throw some old rock n roll in too; some Suzi Quatro, Joan Jet, The Runaways, Chuck Berry, The Undertones and Little Richard. I’d wedge in lots of talk of clothes, charity shop bargains, home improvements, arts, crafts and recipes in between.

If I had my own radio show, I would HAVE to dedicate it to crafts, hobbies and baking. The whole of the IMN team knows that I am a bit of a nutter when it comes to knitting, crocheting and baking cupcakes, so my radio show would be incredibly specialist mainly offering tips and advice. I would try and modernise crafts as well and make it clear that knitting is sexy - not just for your Gran! I'd also get a guest on every show perhaps someone who is an artist in their craft field, offering cool tips on how to jazz up your old battered sofa with a very cool cushion or hand knitted throw.
Alongside my weekly show I'd produce a downloadable video/podcast which really explains to beginners how to start sewing, baking etc. Then you'd be able to knit along to the radio, with me guiding you through, and produce little crafty wonders for your home.
Move over Kirsty Allsop, Britt has landed.

So my radio stations would be jam packed with all the music I like! I would squeeze in some Toots, bang in some Jakwob and of course, sing along to BEYONCE on air- because I have a voice of an Angel – sure!
I also love films, so I would love some film reviews! This would help me choose what to see at the Cinema at the weekend (because my show wouldn’t be at the weekends- weekends are for Daisy time!)
You would here some of my crazy banter like leopards jumping out of cakes and also my on-going joke ‘Take it off’ (long story- tune in to hear!)
I think my radio show would be lots of LOL’s and keep people smiling on through the day!
And I would call it DAIZED and CONFUSED – whooohooo!

If I had my own radio show I’d definitely want to make it a mixture of fun and serious because I think too much of either on a radio show can be boring. I’d like to have a lot of comedy involved in the show as I have a real passion for good comedy and anything that makes you laugh. I believe good radio should make you laugh at least once. So I’d either have a co-presenter with a comedy background or a regular slot every week where a comedian co-hosts or takes over for an hour.
I’d also have a lot of debate about the biggest issues of the day. If you like ‘Have I got News for you’ then my radio show would be something a little like that… But with some music too which would vary but would mainly be old school classics and alternative or underground bands.
