So you've just got your A-level results....what next?

Exams results across the country have been torn open this morning, opening doors to dream careers or crushing hopes. And this year has seen another great performance from our teenagers, with the overall pass rate rising this year for the 30th year in a row, up from 97.8% to 98%. Yet despite these continuing great results, Government stats show that one in seven 18 year olds (15%) are classified as NEET, that's not in education, employment or training, a figure which is rising year on year.
So whether they acheived the grades they wanted or not, it is important for teenagers to know that university is not the only viable option out there, especially with soaring tuition fees. We are in the studio with Bruce Boughton, an apprentice specialist and People Development Manager at Lovell Partnerships, to discuss the alternative options out there for young people, that can help them secure that dream job.
Bruce stresses the value of managing to 'earn while you learn', through schemes such as apprenticeships. An apprenticeship, in whatever sector, can help you gain a vocational qualification and earn a wage, as well as pick up crucial skills for a future career. And with tuition fees at £9000, it is certainly a practical and more viable alternative for some.
Yet whatever vocation and path young people set out to follow, Bruce believes that it is crucial to really think about what motivates you, and where you want to take your career. In some cases, employers value passion, enthusiasm and commitment beyond any degree, and it is key for these to come across in any interview situation.
Thus there are other options out there if you are unable, or unwilling to go to University. For more information about these, have a look at www.lovelle.co.uk/careers .
