Get Britain Crafting

Posted by Catriona on 19 September 2012

Taking part in a hobby may have previously seemed like little more than a way to fill time, but new research has revealed that it can in fact provide huge benefits to your health, improving both mental and physical fitness. Doctors are even supporting the theory, with 1 in 20 people being urged by their GP to take up a hobby, and to take some time to themselves.

And hobbies are making a comeback - amongst all ages! We're in the studio with Anthea Turner (self proclaimed knitting enthusiast) discussing the importance of getting into a hobby, and her mission with Create and Craft to get Britain crafting.

And nearly half of people say they'd take up a hobby to improve their physical wellbeing, and keep their mind active. With a summer of sport coming to an end, and the winter nights drawing in, there's never been a better time to pick up a pastime, and get crafting.

As Anthea says, it is important to do something for you, that little bit of time where you can take time out and have a little 'me' time. Crafting can really allow you to make something unique, bake something delicious or knit something cosy.
