Findings from a YouGov online survey shows that the British public wants official forms like tax returns or council tax to be easier to understand and less complicated.

The 'Communicating with the Citizen' report commissioned by SAS UK & Ireland, out this morning, suggests we may not be getting the best return for our taxes as government isn't communicating as effectively as it could be with the public.

Over half of people felt that the use of simplistic language in documentation and the ability to be able to fill out forms online (50%)could help improve the general communication of government agencies with the public.

Experts say if the Government takes on board today's results it can improve how effectively it captures data, which could lead to enhanced services for tax payers and reduce government costs.
